Unhappy with Xyrem Success Pharmacy - What can I do? Hi,I am without my Xyrem and am unfortunately awake right now (5: 1. AM) Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problems as me. I’ve been taking Xyrem for over a year now and have recently moved out of state and have had to change doctors. I scheduled my new appointment way in advance to make sure the new doc had plenty of time to get all the Xyrem info and paperwork filled out. I called the Xyrem Pharmacy to order a refill and they informed me that they did not have any new information about a new doc or a new Rx. I called the new doc’s office back and they informed me that all of the info. So, we re- checked the fax number and sent everything over once more. My doc’s office received confirmation, so I called the Xyrem success program phone number to make sure they received the fax. They told me that they didn’t get anything. I asked if maybe they should check the fax because it was just sent over and my doc received a confirmation. The rep said it would come straight to her and she didn’t have anything. Confused, I phoned my doc’s office agian, re- checked the fax number and had them fax it yet agian. Later, I called the pharmacy, and spoke to another rep, who said it would take 2. Unhappy with Xyrem Success Pharmacy – What can I do? NO ONE told me this earlier when I made 6 back and forth phone calls. Still though, no one could tell me for sure it they had actually gotten the information, all they said was that I would have to check back in two days. Learn from your success. Two days later (now out of medication for 3 nights total), I call to schedule a shipment. They tell me that they did receive the doctor enrollment form and a new prescription. The doc enrollment form has been processed and they are currently processing the new prescription. Then they say “THE NEW PRESCRIPTION WILL TAKE 2. HRS TO BE ENTERED INTO THEIR SYSTEM” I could understand if I was a brand new patient who had never taken it before and needed all the new materials and to first go through the whole process, but I’ve been taking this religiously for over a year now with no other interuptions. I couldn’t believe it. I tell the rep that I’ve run out of medication days ago and she basically says too bad, not her problem. I call back each day, but it is 4. The shipment is sheduled this past Thursday for me to receive on Friday (Been out of medication for 5 nights on Fri. I call the pharmacy back and they inform me that because of weather, my shipment cannot go out until Monday for me to receive it on Tues. I immediately start crying. I can’t help it by now, my quality of life declines so drastically without this medication and no one at the Xyrem Pharmacy seems to even care. I went to the Xyrem website to see if there were any question or comment form I could fill out or at least some type of satisfaction survey and could find nothing. Every Pharmacy Representative I ever talk to are so rude and unapoligetic. I just don’t know what to do. This is the only pharmacy I can get the medication from, and I pay a whole ton of money to them to get it. Also, when I first received my success program materials from them, it said they would always call me a week before I ran out of medication to set up a new shipment. I would just like to add that they have NEVER called me to set up a shipment, not even after the time for my meds to run out. Monday night will make a total of 9 nights without my medication. I’m crying right now just thinking about how I’m going to have to continue to go through the insomnia, the HH the SP, and of course the EDS and already returned C for so many more nights and days. Weekends are important for my husband and I especially because he works long hours during the days and it’s our main time to spend together. I hate that this weekend will be so bad for the both of us. It seems to get so much harder the longer I go without the Xyrem. Thank you for those who listened through this whole rant. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing any similar problems. I would truly appreciate any suggestions on what I can do. Who can I complain to? If I could go to another pharmacy, I would do it in a second. There just doesn’t seem to be any options for unhappy customers. Thanks again and pray for me this weekend. Can your old doctor call in a one month refill to tide you over? The fact that you’re in another state shouldn’t in itself make a difference. The doctor who prescribes my Xyrem is not in the same state as I am and never has been. The red tape in the medical/insurance industry is enough to drive anyone mad, isn’t it? My son had the flu this fall and he did not take xyrem for 3 days, he was throwing everything up. However, I just paid my co- pays, so now supposedly when they receive a new script from my sleep specialist, I’ll finally get my Xryem shipped off to me again. Can you believe the Xyrem Success Pharmacy stopped shipping my medication because I owed a $6 co- pay? So, I finally paid them, but my insurance should have taken care of it long ago, almost a year now! I owed $3 for two shipments that were sent nearly one year ago. So, I asked the pharmacy to send my shipment now that they are paid, and they told me that now my doctor needs to fax them all of the information to get my meds going again. I have to start all over again, which is all okay, I suppose, I didn’t really take it long enough on the first go around to even make it to the higher end of the dosage scale. I am kinda anxious to start on the Xyrem again. We’ll see how it goes. Cindy. You know you don’t even have to get to the higher end of the dosage scale. I believe you can take lower doses for however long you want to, but the sleep quality is best with the more you take. Now, I have read in books that Xyrem is somethng one can build a tolerance to and become dependent on as well. I’ve also found out that withdrawal can occur too. I definitely need to discuss this with my sleep doc again for clarity because I’ve read conflicting information on the internet and on this forum. I want to armed with information so I know what to expect. Unlike when I began taking stimulants, I was completely unaware of the addicting quality of these prescription drugs. I wish I’d have known then what I know now about becoming physically dependent on Adderrall. The fact is now it’s already too late. I’ve already become dependent on my stimulants, and I have severe withdrawal if I’m without. I’ll let you all know what my sleep specialist says about the Xyrem. If he doesn’t know the answers, I’ll keep digging and asking until I find them. Cindy. I guess my question sorta fits in here? My doctor said he’d fax the script ASAP, and that was the 1. Xyrem already so is registered with the pharmacy and whatnot. Is this wait normal before even hearing anything about it again, or are they scratching their heads wondering what to do about my insurance (it will pay for all scripts, less the 1. I’m worried that’s going to leave me stranded Really fast with the cost of Xyrem and Provigil ? I emailed my doctor last week to check in about how the Provigil was going, and mentioned that I hadn’t heard from the Xyrem ppl yet, so I just thought I’d ask here 1st before I started whining to him again, since he’s probably done his part and sent the script. If the wait is usually short though, maybe I should email my doc and see if he could call and ask about the status of it or something. If it usually takes this long, then I guess I’m just impatient and antsy to maybe finally go to bed and wake up feeling good in the morning instead of kicking around unable to get up and cycling through tons of dreams after my alarm clock goes off the first time many days . Now, I’d have to pay out of pocket, but I would get reimbursed once Cobra entered my payment and my coverage was reinstated (big mess that left me unisured for a week until the backdating ) and they said they’d refile the paperwork to the insurance as soon as I called with my Cobra number. It sucks that people are having a tough time with the Xyrem Success program. My doctor said he’d fax the script ASAP, and that was the 1. Xyrem already so is registered with the pharmacy and whatnot. I’m amazed they take a faxed Rx given it’s a Schedule I drug! When I was taking Adderall I had to have the original hard copy to take to the pharmacy because of the Schedule II of amphetamines. My doctor would send the Rx to me undated as these Schedule type drugs have to be filled within a week as I recall. Every month I had to go through this. A real pain especially given there was a better drug than amphetamine for treatment. Considering I take another med that’s refilled at the pharmacy every 3 weeks at a different date every month, it makes getting my meds even more expensive because of the ever increasing gas prices. My daughter has the same issue with Ritalin. A new Rx must be written every month by her doctor & taken to the pharmacy. It was so much easier with pemoline! This is all very frustrating to me. The new sleep doc mentioned trying Xyrem on me? My then- doctor refused to allow any other arrangement than to have me come in, at a time he scheduled and I ended up paying for, to have him write it out while I sat there and then hand it to me for me to go off and fill before it expired (1 from an old prescription pad expired the evening of the day after it was written!!!). I tried to talk to him about finding a secure place at the clinic to have it kept where I could show ID and pick it up or something, but he refused to talk about it and I was stuck trying to schedule time the 1 day every 2 weeks that he was in town. Since you can only get Xyrem from the central pharmacy, it would make sense that doctors could fax it directly though, because you could probably mail it too, but really any way you do it there’s chance of something going wrong along the way, and at least fax would be faster. Can you imagine if you had to present a written script to a central pharmacy in one location somewhere in the US every month to get it? Hopefully I’ll hear soon.
